The old lady from far

The old lady from far
Partly sitting partly standing
In a visibly uncomfortable pose
Holding a bunch of green stems
In her hand
Her restless eyes
Watch passers by
With hope
Someone will stop
Look at her green wonder
And take it home

She has traveled
From the village far
With a bundle of green stems
In her hand
This is all she got
To make living
And her day would me made
If she could sell that bundle
She can go home in peace
With a wonderful gift
'Bread' for the family

i see this brave babooshka as andersen's little match girl still ever hopeful with her slender bundle. and she lives with us still. she'll always be with us. they are the same woman. you honour her well abhay.

Calm and quiet,she always remains,
come what may,she never complains!
She always bears the worldly pains,
she never compares pleasures with gains!
She lives her life with amazing silence,
i want to salute, for her resilience!!!!!

Hi Scherazade,
Wow! What a honor to be compared with Andersen and Pushkin...dear Scheherazade i do not know what to say...I just want to thank for always touching the core of my heart with your words.

Hi Purvi,
I am so glad that you read my poems and even like them.It is such a great feeling to know that we share some common threads...

Hi Rachana,
As always your instantaneous outpours are at their best! I love the purity and talent mix that comes out in your verses.

Hi Lindsay
Thank you so much for your words. Your words are the best planes I have ever found...they will take me far...

So much change in the world today - so much struggle that we tend to turn our eyes from... this piece makes me feel ashamed of myself for ever complaining when there are people in the world who work this hard, and are this thankful, for something so simple as bread.

This reminds me of the street children of Manila. Many of them even won't ask for your money but would wait outside some restaurants to ask you for rice. Rice that would feed the rest of their family for that evening.

Thank you for this wonderful tribute and reminder...I echo the thoughts of Erin.
